Description

The doll belongs to an ethnic groups in Southeast Asia, Akha. There are multiple subgroups of the Akha ethnic groups that are located in the mountains of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. The doll is wearing a black headwrap decorated with beads, silver coins, and colorful tassels. She has a black shirt with red lining and pleated black skirt and front apron adorned with white buttons. She has silver necklaces and cuff bracelets on both wrists. She has on an embroidered satchel that has pompoms attached to it along with a bamboo basket she is holding on her left wrist.

Geographic Notes
Bought in Vientiane, Laos by Clarice Osborn in the early 1970s. Osborn brought them with her to the US in Brenham, TX.
