Description

“E Kaw” is labeled on the bottom of the wooden block the doll is kneeling on. This doll belongs to the Akha ethnic group. “Ekaw” is a term many Akha people view as an offensive. The doll is wearing a black headwrap decorated with beads, silver coins, and colorful tassels. She has silver earrings, necklaces and cuff bracelets on. She has a black shirt with red lining and a black skirt with an embroidered yellow and green swirl apron in the front. In her arms, she is holding a sai fish trap.

Geographic Notes
Bought in Vientiane, Laos by Clarice Osborn in the early 1970s. Osborn brought them with her to the US in Brenham, TX.
