Description

“Black Tai (Tai Dam)” is labeled on the bottom of the wooden block the doll is standing on. “Tai” is referred to Thai people in Laos and “Dam” meaning black in the Lao. The doll belongs to the Tai Dam ethnic group in Laos, who resettles there after the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. She is wearing black woven designed head scarf, colorful jacquard shirt with black flower and leaf design wrap skirt along with silver necklace and earring.

Geographic Notes
Bought in Vientiane, Laos by Clarice Osborn in the early 1970s. Osborn brought them with her to the US in Brenham, TX.
