Description

Leather flag Bearer standard belt harness belonged to William J. Efner used in Civil War. Dr. William J Efner was a 1st Sargent. Has small US brass buckle. Belt is 31" long and 3" wide, flap pole cup is 6" long. Circa: 1862

Dr. Efner was an aide to Gen. John Alexander Logan. That fact is preserved in family lore. (Logan, who became a U.S. Senator and a Republican nominee for vice president, was an early commander of the Grand Army of the Republic and was one of the persons instrumental in establishing the annual Memorial Day.)

Elbert Efner says of his grandfather, Logan's aide, "Не was a runner some of the time. A flag-bearer. He was with Logan on the march from Atlanta to Savannah."
After the war Dr. Efner settled at Pierson, Iowa, east of Sioux City.
