A flat-plane wood carved panel entitled “How About Me?” by wood carver Peter Wedin (1894 - 1979) featuring a white carved wood frame around a carved scene depicting a woman milking three goats in the foreground while a cow peers through the nearby fence, with three kettles set atop small fires tended by a girl in the near distance. Three log cabins fill the background with a line of evergreens in the distance. Written in pencil on the back: “How About Me?”, “Carving by Peter Wedin”. Attached sticker on the back: “Peter Wedin, 4330 James North, Minneapolis 12, Minnesota”. Original Gammelgarden artifact number D-0347-13. With two round metal hooks and a twisted plastic cord hanger mounted to the back.
Peter Wedin immigrated to Minnesota in 1923 and worked as a woodcarver for a furniture factory in Minneapolis from 1923 to 1930. After 13 years spent in Montreal, Wedin returned to Minneapolis in 1943. Wedin studied portrait and landscape painting at the Hermods Correspondence Institute in Sweden. He visited Sweden four times and once exhibited his woodcarvings in Karlskoga. Mr. Wedin continued his skill and hobby of carving 3D wood panels until the 1970’s. He entered many of these wood panels at the Minnesota State Fair and won ribbons.
